Helpline AGM 2008 Report:
It has been a
quiet year for Helpline which is well used and works efficiently. Valerie Rymarenko
continues to excel in providing people with equipment
when it
is required and by delivering and collecting it. Charges are still exceedingly modest. Many people are unaware of what is available
and
so we
ask them to look on the CIA website where many items are displayed. In the main there are items for the
incapacitated such as wheelchairs and crutches,
or
baby items such as car seats and push-chairs.
Also on the
web-site is a very good article on “What to do when
Someone dies in
This should be
printed out and left with one’s papers and effects so that one’s children or heirs will
find it and know what the procedure is here.
Helpline would
also advise that everyone should carry on their person a small card with their
personal information, their doctor’s name and
telephone number,
and a
list of any medicines that they are taking.
This is in the event of an emergency, downtown, or even on the ski
slopes.
Helpline would
also like to thank John Pinnell for his very
interesting Friday Meat a few months ago detailing the different procedures
each country
takes in
sorting out the paperwork when a death occurs.
Time spent now
listing stocks, shares, bank accounts, savings and subscriptions etc. is time
well spent and saves hours of inconvenience for the heirs.
I’d
also like to thank our Treasurer, Isobel Bowen, for keeping the accounts and
for doing this task for very many years.
