ABOUT PDF-FILES

PDF-files are a kind of electronic photocopies (or maybe a fax). When you have a computer document you can, with special software, convert it by making an electronic print!

So why now use PDF files?

It is the must virus resistant file (how do you put a virus into a photo copy?) It can be used by ANY computer operating system (Windows 95, XP, Mackintosh, Linux, you name it!)  - it is very easy to read and print out (no pictures jumping around) it is very easy to archive (just store it as it is) – it is very easy to put on a website, AND the reading software is FREE.

What are the disadvantages?

You need special software to read it. You cannot change a PDF file when it has been made so it is only useable for pages you don’t want to change (like a newsletter etc.). You have to take a special copy (easy procedure- see below) if you only want a part of the document (like a picture).

SOFTWARE (ACROBAT READER)

Most computers already have the “ACROBAT READER” software installed and if not the offer to install it for free would probably pop-up the first time you try to open it.

Anyway I have found the websites for free downloads:

For XP click here

For any other operating system click here

How to copy and “paste” sections of a PDF-file:

On top of the ACROBAT menu bar there is a picture of a small camera (Snapshot tool) click on that! You can now “LASSO” any area of the contents and when you let the mouse button go a message comes up saying: “The area selected has been copied to the clipboard”.

You can now PASTE the selected part into any document!

HAPPY READINGS!
