George Stobart was born and educated in England, graduating with a BA (London) degree in Modern Languages. Later qualified as Chartered Secretary and Chartered Management Accountant. Married Carla in 1951, and their son was born in 1957.
Lived in Southern Rhodesia 1952-1980, apart from short spells in England and South Africa.
Appointed Group Financial Director of Rio Tinto Rhodesia in 1973, and in 1980 was transferred to South West Africa as Finance Director of Rio Tinto’s mining operations in that country.
Retired in Andorra 1990.
